Question alternators questions

hey i have read on here somewhere that i can use a diff alternator for my ls1 camaro motor swap. they said i could use a truck one maybe i cant remeber an cant find it on here now. an it said that their cheaper then the advance auto parts ones then the ones that is for a camaro so if u could let me know if this is true are which one it is. thanks jason

the ad244 is the only bigger ALT that will fit in the stock bracket.......if you go custom bracket.....its hog wild

Alterstart makes one, you can find it on ebay. I got my 200amp jobbie for $250 shipped. Fit in the stock bracket with minimal cussing...

is it any bigger then stock one? Were its goin into a 69 camaro I cant go any bigger then stock are ill have to cut my k member?

It, like the one linked above, is in a slightly larger case. It does fit within the stock bracket and stock LS1 fbody location. I'm not familiar enough with the 1st gens to say for sure that it would fit, but probably.

what's the purpose for a larger alternator? you running a system?

Not sure if you considered switching to a Corvette system. It would relocate the alternator entirely. It will reside up high on the passenger side of the motor. You would need a balancer and tensioner from a vette. I helped a friend do an LS swap into an 81 Camaro and the K member was tight with the F Body setup in regards to the alternator. Here is a pic of his motor now.
