I would talk to some of the people who make headers. They will have the most knowledge about these things. There are also companies who make shells that you weld to your exhaust and look like cats. Just something to look into maybe.

Shells or gutted cats aren't going to fool any trooper if he has you start your car. Good highflow cats are Magnaflow and Random Tech. Thunderbolt is another brand; they are cheaper but I haven't heard how well they work.

Magnaflow if you have to, but what I did a few years ago was welded some flanges on a pair of cats and fabbed up some straight pipes with flanges. So when I would drive around I had cats and if I wanted to run on the street I could bolt up the straight pipe.

3" metallic magnaflows won't cost you 5rwhp......Ceramic core cats tend to break up easily so stay away from them.....

Sorry to be OT, but that's gotta be the absolute worst spelling of "catalytic" I have ever seen. Mozilla Firefox has automatic spell check FYI.

Isn't that a lot of work to take off your cats and put in the straight pipes just to get 3-4 hp, especially when you're just on the street?

Just get an electric cutout or diverter after adding your cats -- best of both worlds ;-)
