Default PCV Valve

Does anybody know what the heavy duty cable is connected/wrapped around the PCV Valve?

It connects to the block at the other end. It looks like an earth lead but doesn't seem to have any electrical function - perhaps static?? Can you live without it?

Thanks for the reply - makes sense.

I read on one forum that it was for cooling - which didn't make any sense wrapped in a rubber boot attached to the block.
