Default Blowing smoke on down shift

I seem to be burning oil on a long hard down shift. I suspect an oil build up in the intake. I am upgrading to a fast 102mm/96 combo in a few weeks. What souls I look for and what can I do to prevent. ( catch can for sure)
thanks
Patrick

Catch can should catch most of the oil. How many miles are on your heads?

Smoke during high vacuum intervals, like coasting in gear and letting the engine slow the car, usually points to valvestem seals.

thanks guys,
The heads are new, 10K miles on them now but it has been doing this since the total build. I have also noticed that i loose a quart every 2.5K miles.

Default Smoke

Yes , downshift causes oil to be pulled into the cylinder through the valve stems . Smoke under acceleration is oil pulled past rings .
However , when I was useing 5-30 oil the engine would pull oil into the intake through the PCV . There is a fix on this site to change the PCV valve location . It seemed rather involved though .
I changed to 10-30 and do 1.5 quarts every 3,000.

i had a couple valve seals push up on me, i was burning oil like i was trying to get high off the ****. now i'm back to the normal puff puff that the ls1's let out. but thats because i haven't upgraded to a ls6 style pcv yet. catch can helped though.

I thought catch cans only stopped oil from going back into the Intake Manifold by cooling/condensing oil vapors and having filters to catch them. So, wouldn't you still lose the same amount, but just not burn as much? .... or were you talking about it helping from blowing smoke?

i know this, i was talking about after i had the valve seals fixed. a catch can can help with oil consumption through the intake. but an ls6 pcv system would be even better.

I too have a catch can to
