Removing Water pump fittings

Default Removing Water pump fittings

So i tried heating these up with a torch to no avail. What am i doing wrong? how hot do they need to get? I was thinking of just plugging them for now are the freeze plugs ok to use? Thanks. yes i searched.

Some are about to fall out, of course mine were real hard to get out. I ended up locking the water pump in a vise and using giant vise-grips to flatten the tubes, lock onto them, and twist them out.

You dont wanna heat the fitting, you wanna heat the case around it. if you heat just the fitting you're doing the opposite of what you wanna do.

Inlet is 1/2" NPT, outlet is 3/8" NPT or you could find cup plugs (sizes unknown).

mine were the easy ones to get out. just heated the pump and they pulled out, dont put to much heat on the pump dont want to damage the seal. took my pump to the auto parts store and matched them up with some freeze plugs. been there for two years now..

So did you actually tap your water pump and screw in some fittings? I'm looking to do this but I'm unsure of the size I'll need to tap them.

Here's a build pic, shows a pair of Earl's fittings. One a 3/8 NPT x -10 and the other a 1/2" x -10...
