How to measure v-band clamps?

How to measure v-band clamps? I'm trying to order a new V Band clamp and the parts places don't list the sizes of just the clamps based on the size of the pipe. I have 3" V Bands and Napa and Auto Zone has sizes like 3 1/8, 3 1/4, 3 1/2, etc. I'm not sure what exactly they're measuring to get those sizes. Thanks.
