Default Ebay Throttle Body

Well, since there's a thread about ebay headers why not one about the ebay throttle bodies. I've seen several 80mm throttle body show up on ebay for pretty cheap. Anyone tried one?

Since there's a sticky asking not to post links I won't, but they're not hard to find on ebay. The same people who sell the headers sell the TB. There seems to be a bunch of metal around the outside rim, a port job could really open it up.

What intake manifold are you running, Brian? Will the LS6 accept an 85 mm?

Bump- I'm interested in knowing too. $100 isn't bad and the piece looks nice BUT I know that you get what you pay for and I'd rather spend half of that on a nice port-job if it's garbage.

Im always iffy about ebay stuff as a whole, so I wouldnt buy it, but thats just me. Some guys run into issues, some guys run ebay stuff forever with zero problems. Id say just spend $50 and get your TB ported.

I I understand with ebay items like headers there are design fitment issues and poor welds. But these are TB's, it doesn't seem like there's much to mess up with them as long as all the connections are in the right place and the throttle blade opens and closes correctly. The cost is just a shade more than a quality port job on a stocker. These are 80mm TBs and the pictures show that that they're 4" from outside edge to outside edge so a port job could really open it up.

Bump this up for anyone else who might have tried these.

One thing looking at the ebay results, none of the 80mm ones I saw have the idle hole in the butterfly. Not too sure how that'll affect things. Damn things look like one-armed drunken midgets cut them by hand with files, though. The opening also looks lopsided and cocked to one side, too...

Since you're really just going to see a throttle response by bumping up 2mm (stocker is 78mm, I think), I'd spend the money on getting a stocker ported, rather than buying one of those Amy Winehouse-looking TBs.

For $100, someone has got to try them out. I can't search ebay here on this computer right now, but I doubt it would be a horrible piece. Stock TB is 75mm... I'd like to see some tested

Also, to add to the topic, look up the LS1 ported throttle body exchange.. It's $39 after core, or you can eliminate the core and send yours in first.. Pics of the ported TB's look great, and the feedback is great, and price is hard to beat with all the jobs done to the TB

I see what you're saying about there not being a hole in the throttle blades, not sure how that would affect things though. Since no one's tried one and the one I'm looking at is $80 I'm thinking about going ahead and buying one. The seller has 14 negative reviews about 1242 positive reviews this month so I guess the odds are in my favor. I'm trying to find reviews of people who've bought their LS1 throttle body but they do a lot of business.
