1 3/4 is plenty. The internet experts will tell you to go 1 7/8 because bigger is always better, but ignore them.

So at what power # should you go to 1 7/8? There has to be some point where it would be benificial.

You don't lose any power with 1 3/4" vs 1 7/8", so if they're the same price, I'd go bigger. Headroom never hurts.

Searching doesn't hurt either. This topic was just discussed in depth in the last 2 weeks and the thread is just on page 2 of this forum:

if you havent purchased headers yet, i would go 1 7/8. The TSP headers look great for the price.

^ probably picked up half of the new power just in the Y . Not a fair comparison as this was a H/C car. 1 7/8 would be a nice move if you plan on extra mods in moving more air later (i.e., heads, + cubes, etc). Might lose a little torque down low initially. Cam only car....I'm with Damian. This debate has been beatin to death...

If the bigger primary headers were more expensive for just the size increase, I'd agree, but with TSP and Hooker (along with some others I don't know about, I'm sure) selling 1 7/8" headers for roughly the same price or just a little more than 1 3/4" headers, I don't see any reason not to pick up the 1 7/8". Sure, it's not necessary for a mid-power build, but it gives more headroom to make a little more power if someone decides to bump up to a bigger cam or better heads later on down the road.

I think buying a set of Kooks or ARH only to step up 1/8" per primary is pointless, but they're not the only companies making 1 7/8" headers.

Exactly!! If you have not bought a set of headers yet then 1 7/8 is the way to go. Definitely not worth it if you have 1 3/4 already.

I have seen a ton of discussion, but never seen an apples to apples comparison chart of 1 3/4 & 1 7/8 with a basically stock Camaro with maybe a CAI showing no loss of low end torque. That is where a lot of the thrill is...

Dont have a dyno sheet comparison but when i was cam only i raced two cars with my exact set up and won. Beat them both from a roll and a dig. The only difference was i was 1 7/8 they were 13/4. All three cars were ms4 cam only m6s.
