I asked this question in the stickey, but it kindof got burried. I am planning a TD exhaust, and was wondering if a 'X' muffler could be used instead of an X pipe. it would be in the stock location (behind the axle). The muffler looks like:

Wouldn't perform the same function as an x-pipe. An x-pipe is located a lot closer to the collectors to allow for proper exhaust gas scavenging. That muffler would take care of the straight-pipe sound if you ran separate duals, but you wouldn't get the actual benefits of an x-pipe.
Any reason you don't want to run an x or h up front?

Also...unless they redesigned and cleaned up this muffler recently...I wouldn't waste my money. I bought one from Summit and returned it as soon as looked inside. There is uneven metal cuts and huge overhang pieces right in the inlet side of the flow at the X junction...garbage. See my thread from a few years ago:
