which goes to ground and which goes to battery on starter?

Default which goes to ground and which goes to battery on starter?

Which one of these is ground and which goes to the battery. I already know the smaller one is the keyed signal..

I believe left is power/positive and right is ground/negative.

There is no ground connection at the starter. The battery positive goes to the big stud that's on the left. The one on the right is the solonoid connection to the starter motor.

The ground is made by the starter being bolted to the engine.

If you connect ground to the right terminal, everything will blow up when the key is turned to "start".

Ok makes sense.

Is it ok to use the larger stud as a terminal to split off to the alternator from.

Yes, that's usually how it's done when the battery is removed from the engine compartment.
