Pricey, and many people speculate it's actually LESS efficient than a lid, because it has more exposure to hot air from the engine bay. It does look cool though!

Yea, that's just the K&N Cold Air Intake system for Ls1 F-Bodies. Volant also offer's another setup similar to the K&N system.

Here's the Volant setup for Camaro's..

And here's the Volant setup for the Trans Ams...

get a lid so you can utilize a nice ram air system too...both will give much more gains than just a filter...2 mph on some systems

This is why I chose the Volant over the K&N. In setups for other cars the K&Ns have a heat shield of some kind, but not for LS1s. The Volant has rubber weatherstripping to seal its heat shield to the hood, so the only air it gets is sucked through the hood scoop. You can actually hear the air sucking in the hood scoop at idle with the hood down.

The Volant setup isn't that well made. It didn't fit well. Doesn't line up with the existing bolt-holes as it's intended to, but once I messed with it and did some drilling, it worked very well. I would definitely recommend it over the overpriced K&N. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it over the SLP lid I replaced with it, as I didn't feel any difference between the 2, but I never heard the SLP lid sucking air through the scoop.

i don't mean to go off topic, but are either of these intakes of any benefit for the larger tb/intake guys?

like if you're using a 90/90 or 102/102 setup, i'd assume you'd want a larger tube coming off the filter. what intakes are recommended for these larger tb/intake combos?

How much from summit? And part #? Looks to be stock diameter opening to the MAF?

I am using a FAST 102 and NW 102 so I plan on fabbing up my own 4" intake. I wanted to use this style of intake if I can get a 4" opening so it can go with my ram air hood and then also get ram air from underneath as well. Who knows, may end up with a 4" lid....
