Default Ported TB questions

So I have a few questions about doing a ported stock TB. First off, when is a good time to do it? I have only a lid right now, so I was wondering if it'd be better to wait until I had some other mods (i.e. headers/exhaust) to do this or to just jump right in and do it now?

Second question, my car is an '02 if I get lazy and buy an already ported stock tb from a 98-99 TB with the smaller cam is that going to be any benefit or is this just going to cause problems with my ASR & cruise control? (I don't care about ASR really so an effect on that wouldn't be that big of a deal)

Third question, what kind of changes does this mod make in terms of driveability. My car is 100% street and a dd right now so I don't really want to have too adverse an effect.

Porting the stock TB doesn't really do much for hp gains at all. Really all you do is just grind down that lip right before the throttle body and then blend it out. In reality the TB is still the same size air just gets to it easier. So do it whenever. No changes will be mad to driveability really.

You can do it now, it doesnt need other mods to benefit.

Need to keep the T/B from 2000-2002.

Makes the driveability better. A lot better throttle response right off idle.

Ok, that's what I kinda figured. Would this remain true if I did the bump stop mod as well?

Oh I thought it'd be the other way. Thanks for the heads up.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't do it now. You won't notice a difference one way or the other. It may feel a tiny bit more responsive. Cam and a few other things are different but 98-2002 throttle bodies are the same, pretty darn sure anyway.

I see they have different colored springs and different cams, and according to Bo White, the hose connections are different. Thank you for the correction and sorry to misinform. But, dare I say that they are, for the most part, interchangeable? Or I should prolly just shut up lol.

Best bet is to send your own TB out for porting....

I have a TPIS ported 2000 TB for sale in the classifieds

I did notice a difference when mine was installed and TPIS mills down the actuation shaft to improve air flow unlike other places.

It cost me $90 to have it ported. I will sell it for $90 shipped

If its ported properly you will gain HP and throttle response.
The coolant hoses are the same from 1998-2002 and the cable driven truck TBs will work on the 98-99 cars but thier hoses are different.
2004 GTO, they(including the trucks) dont gain like the Fbodys because of the hard turn on the intake
