i have a slp lid already, is it guna be restricting alot of flow seeing as the tb/intake size is 7+mm bigger? i did see people are buying the ftp 104mm lid and the 85mm maf fits inside of it... i just dont know how big the restriction of air will be

Changing from anything other than a stock MAF will most likely give you trouble but a FTP 98mm lid and 85mm z06 MAF will be the best cost effective way to go. Should be $250 with the 5 pin to 3 pin adaptor and the couplers new. The stock MAF is definately a restriction above 400rwhp but that doesn't stop people making 500rwhp through it. Those two mods might be worth 5rwhp though at your level.

the ID of the slp lid is around 90mm. the 85mm maf will still be your biggest restriction as its 85mm plus it has the sensors inside reducing flow area. if you have the lid already this is the way to go, as this is exactly what im doing. the FTP lid is def nicer but its an extra 150 for marginal gain.

What's your set up? If it's stock cube or and NA set up, and especially since you rather not spend money... I think money could be better spent.

not saying to get a bigger maf than the 85mm just saying the slp lid will not be the weakest link and will not be a big difference other than appearance compared to the ftp. the 85mm will pick up 5hp and for 30 bucks you can go wrong.

well heres my set up, yes stock cube ls1 N/A
stock 241 heads with springs
pushrods
ms4
nickwilliams 92
fast 92mm ported (by vengeance to roughly 96)
qtp long tubes
tsp tru dual x
asp pully
double timing chain
ported ls6 oil pump
lid (just wondering if i should go FTP with a BIG MAF)
still debating of 42 or 60lb i njectors for future mod reasons(such as e85 or heads and so on...)

i dont wana spend money but if i wana do it right which so far i feel i have done i will...unless the 85mm is the best. seems like no1 runs an aftermarket let alone a 100mm, like TSP does and lengenfelter do... powrmaf makes a 104mm and then the stock 85 or slp 85, and other random ones. i just wana kno the best least restrictive and tune friendly(but im sure that depends on tuner)

A bigger MAF on a stock cube H/C car is not money well spent IMO. You won't feel 5- or 10 hp. A 100mm MAF is $200 and don't forget, you will also have to have it tuned which may cost another $200.

Be patient. Save that money toward heads! That's what I'd do.

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trk...All-Categories

most of the negative results with either MAF is either outdated or untuned.

with that intake setup i believe the motor will see the pressure drop difference between having a screen and not. so i would take it out. mines out and have no issues. you need a gm 5pin adapter 20 bucks. you can get the one that lets you use the iat in the maf for 25. i have no experience with SD tunes.

if he can tune for speed density it can be good, if he can't your car isn't going to run as good anymore. i have a SLP maf and i didn't see any differences with my very first tune i went with a tuner and the different tuner actually worked on the maf tables which he told me were untouched. so make sure you get someone that you know has experience.

don't get the SLP maf.. overpriced.. get an 85mm GM maf either screened/descreened.. some people have a preference on the screen, some not. I went from a 78mm SLP air lid and stock sized maf to the FTP 98mm air lid and GM 85mm screened maf and picked up 4hp and 7tq on a humid high temp day. Throttle response was increased and was very easily noticeable. I spent $30 on the maf, $25ish on the 3-5 pin adapter, and $160 on the lid. Hope this helps.

great thanks it does help alot as other posts have, appreciate it guys. i think im guna get a hold of my tuner n pick his brain on the speed density idea see if he prefers me doing a maf or if hes 100% fine at SD tuning and confident with it, otherwise ill prob do the 85mm and def guna fo the ftp 98, unless tuner says differently
