Default I just picked up a used Meziere water pump, how do I test it?

I would like to test it out before I install it. Can I just plug it in and let it run dry for a few seconds, or does it need water?

BTW I searched and thats all I can find is dyno tests, etc.

A few seconds should be ok. Just don't let it get hot.

I tested my CSR one on my LT1 car the same way...Just hooked it up to the batt for a few seconds to see if the impeller spun.
