Default Drive without front o's hooked up?

So I'm putting some headers on my car.

My exhaust guy says I need to wait until I have everything hooked before he places the o2 bungs to make sure it's in the correct location.

Is there a way I can drive my car to the exhaust place with the front o2s unhooked or outside the exhaust pipe?

...... the O2 sensors help the car run its air/fuel ratio, so that answer is no. just put the o2 bungs right after the collector on the longtubes.

It would be very difficult to drive the car without the front 02 sensors if the computer still reads off them. The computer will basically want to dump a bunch of fuel in the motor to keep it safe since there are no sensors to tell it whats going on. Usually long tube headers come with 02 bungs already welded in for the fronts.

I'm only driving about 5 miles...?

They are a race style header, so the bung has to be welded in.

You can drive it...it just won't go into closed loop.

Yeah, my exhaust guy said people do it all the time. I doubt it will hurt anything for that short of distance.

Every cold start you are essentially driving without O2's until they warm up enough to make the car go into closed loop.

It seems odd to me that your headers don't already have O2 bungs in them. And even odder still that someone needs to see them on the car before they add the bung since there is basically only a few spots on the collector where you should put them anyway.

Seriously, drama queens, calm down. The **** will be fine. There are several occasions in normal driving where the computer doesn't use the 02s to run the motor.
