Default My first H/C/I install

So this is my second big upgrade and was wondering what i should be expecting when i remove the stock heads/intake/ and cam...i'm doing this my self in a shop and will be taking pics for the before and after. What's going in are AFR 205's(out the box), TSP Torquer 2 cam, and a FAST 102..with the supporting mods...I've been on the LS1 How to site and printed out what i needed. but if you guys have any advice I'm all ears. I'm starting this tommorow and will keep you guys posted...thanks

Just take your time....especially with the damn oil pickup tube bolt

Also be careful taking the cam out so you dont scratch up the bearings. I used the ls1howto site as well when I did mine and its a good write up. Follow it step by step torque everything down and go slow

Also, make sure not to break the oil sending unit in the back while taking off the intake and
clean up the threads in the block really good before installing your heads. Good luck

I haven't done a cam install yet, but I had to remove one of my heads before.. don't ask, anyway, like said above, be sure to clean out the head bolt holes and threads in the block. I used twisted pieces of paper towels to help soak up any fluid in the holes and the used one of the old bolts with the groove cut in it to clean the threads. I then used a straw from a drink cup, one of the thicker ones, and used a small funnel that fit in the straw. I then shoved the straw in the hole, used my shop vac by putting the hose on the funnel to pull the anything else in there out. How ever you do it, just make sure the holes are clean and dry when you put the heads back on.

Crank pulley install tool. Mine just came in today. Got it from HERE. Quality piece. There are a couple others on the board that are cheaper but for $45 and not having to worry about stripping threads and breaking bolts in your crank its priceless.

I'm stuck trying to remove the center bolt on the passenger side exhaust manifold...the dip stick is right in front of it...I've loosened the bolt but can't get it out any tips ...

Dip stick removed...figured it out by accident..so far I've removed the exhaust manifolds(that was a pain a the butt)...egr/air has been removed and tommorow I should be taking off the intake..more tommorow...

So the image of the intake with the sensor mounted to what looks like a brass bracket(at least thats what it looks like from the camera flash) can anybody tell me what that is...its still on there im just curious to know..

Pics didnt come out, this on the stock intake? Is this on a 98-00 LS1 or 01-02. Just guessing, your asking about the ERG stuff.

What image/camera flash are you speaking of?

Also, is there a reason why you are doing this in the engine bay? I am definitely dropping the K-frame and putting my motor on a stand when I do my build. Nothing like working on a motor when it is on an engine stand.

I noticed a hole in the throttle body blade...i didn't do it and was wondering if stock TB came likr this...also on the TB i found oil on the side of it and i'm not to sure if this bad..my guess is that it is..any ideas of why this could be and should be worried.

I'm really considering that right now but...it looks like a lot of work.. i'm might i have to look at to reffrence book to to see how's it done...but the reason i'm doing it the engine bay is because of the magazines i've come across have all done it that way and LS1 how to.com didn't have a problem with doing it in the bay either..amd that's my go by as of right now..the image i'm talking about is the center image above

I would not be worried about the oil. The hole in the throttle body, I would be worried about that. If I recall correctly, these TB's come with a very small hole in them stock, maybe 1/16-3/32" in diameter. Apparently that was opened up for whatever reason, but that is not good IMO.

That sensor I think might be for the coils actually, but I really have no idea. I have never torn one of these motors down yet, just did some tooling around here and there. Almost looks like an EVAP plug.

Actually the sensor or what ever it is has a line with a L-shaped boot that connected to the top of a plastic circular piece that the air hose connected to and that was connected to the air pump..this is for a 2000 Z and it is a stock intake

the car runs fine or at least it did when it was running, ideal was straight too...it may look big on the picture but my guess is that it is stock...thanks for intell...i didn't know that they came with a small hole...
