Find a good rewinding shop and have them do it....I got mine done for $75 when a parts store rebuilt one was $160+. If you buy a parts store one get a Delco....

ive liked powermaster as well as excessive amperage for my 'better than stock' ones, but like SOMBITCH said, a rebuild or delco will work

Also check your + and - terminals for corrosion before you get a new altenator. That solved the problem with mine

if i ever have to swap my alt. i'm going with a truck 145 amp. you can get them from a junk yard(i think a low miliage junk yard part is better than a parts store reman.). if not, just go to a parts store and get a 145 amp alt for a 99-03? truck and you'll be good. very little is involved in making the bigger alt. fit and it's worth it. all the info is in the link posted above.
