Unhappy Powersteering Fluid on Alt FIRE...HOTWIRE KIT FIRE...

Ok, so Monday morning I went to work at 6:30am, shut off car went to work and then at 7:25am I get a call that my car is on fire. They put out the fire and I look at the HOTWIRE for the fuel pump (Racetronix 255) and it is glowing red as hell. I unhook the battery and it goes away.

So I get it home look at it and trying to figure out why that wire was glowing red and caught fire. The Inline Fuse DID NOT blow. My fuel pump has been whining really bad lately (1 month), it was clogged with trash from the tank. In the mornings it's usually cool outside and the pump does not whine.

My power steering pump has a small leak. Could the fluid dripping on the Alternator cause the HOTWIRE KIT to short out somehow.

The HOTWIRE KIT is only burned up to the INLINE FUSE then the rest is fine. I dont know what could of happen.

Thanks for reading

Well, for electronics in general, a fuse will only work properly if the rest of the system is designed and working properly/good condition. Sounds like something in your system was shorting out.

More info please. The hot wire is connected to where/what before the fuse? The wire glowed and burned between this connection and the fuse OR between the fuse and the run to the rear?

What size fuse? If the fuse's amp rating is too high for the wire gauge, the wire will burn through before the fuse blows...

Hi,
i would suspect a coMbo of things gone wrong. Fire needs three things:
1. Source
2. Oxygen
3. Ignition
if you check closely you will be able to locate starting point by burn pattern.
Good luck and double check the electrical as the other replies stated.
Be cautious and get out the voltmeter check resistance and current draw.
Have a blessed day.
Jim
