Default Stock y pipe question?

I am wanting to put a powerstick on my factory y pipe where the I pipe connects and just dump it. Should I get a 3", or a 2 1/2"? I plan on just clamping or welding it right to the y pipe slip connection and dumping it. Any ideas?

Cool, I thought it was 2 3/4 but I'm not sure. I know the y pipe narrows down so the I pipe will slide over it, and I'm wanting my powerstick to slide over where the I pipe goes.

I've got the Borla bolted to the end of my Y-Pipe. Popped on a small turndown and it's done! Actually, it doesn't sound bad at all. This is temporary until i decide on headers and TD's or Y-Pipe. The 3 inch bullet will slide over the biggest part of the stock Y-Pipe. Clamp it down tight and it will work.

So did you have to cut the reduced part of the y pipe off? I'll probably order a powerstick on payday. Probably get a short or meduim length. I had the meduim length ones on my dual set up on my old lt1 car and loved it. This will be temporary until I get my headers and duals also. I just can't stand the sound of the flowmaster on it now.

Nope, I didn't cut any of the stock pipe. The Borla fits on the large part just enough to clamp it tight. Not saying it's perfect, but it works. So far i'm not seeing any exhaust residue around the clamp. It must be sealed good enough!
