So, I just installed a new starter. Came out of the box with the starter gear not sticking out. Do I need to pull it out or does it pop out with a solenoid or something. Just wondering cause I change the starter on my truck (05 6.0) and it was already sticking out where I could line it up. Someone told me that it just pops out and engages when you start the car. Just seems like it has a big chance to slip and cause some problems. Any help would be appreciated.
