Default trimming throttle plate hat ?

Hey everyone , I would like some opinions about trimming 1/3 of the extra rounded semi-circular hat that is attachted to the throttle plate . I've ported the throttle body considerably and I see this piece as a little bit of a restriction . I'm assuming it's purpose is to help divert the air-flow around/past the throttle shaft in a smoother fashion than compared to without . Does this sound correct , and would trimming 1/3 off it help overall flow ? Thanx

Default

ive seen companies advertising new t/b's that have that piece removed, says that it makes quite a noticeable part throttle gain, however i wouldnt believe most of whats advertised, cant see it helping alot but it probably wouldnt hurt.
