Default dam it i sprung a leak

so i drive theblakbyrd for the first time in 6 months and woudnt you know it a ******* oil leak

on valentines day

so i have a puddle under the passengerside rear of the block

im guessin here that its my stupid valve cover on the passenger side since i got a little bit of smoke from the header coming from undr the hood. i have to take it off to change my plugsince they are 3 inches tall and every tme i take this one off it does this the gasket doesnt align right or pinches or what ever it does and i get puddles

for the life of me sometimes i want to drive this thing in a lake

What did you torque the valve cover bolts to? Factory spec using an accurate torque wrench, or just good 'n tight?

Since they are aftermarkets with much larger bolts they are just tight. I had this problem before. When reinstalling them, the gasket has a tendency to well not seal

Cause and effect. Four bolts tightened to no particular spec, exerting varying loads on the valve cover, the thing warps and/or the gasket fails to seal.

Torque wrench is a great investment.

cant use one on the back 2 bolts remembr 3 inch tall valve covers so its not exactly cut and dry. since they are so tall and in a very confined space as you slid thevalve covr over the rockers sometimes it snags teh gsket and puls it out of its groove so it s\usually leaksfter my 1st install on the back corner i described

they re also allen head bolts

now dont get me wrong i assume blame for this if its actually the gasket i think it is

but sadly when it comse to this car nothing is by the book
