Default ls1 alternator relocation kit - speed, inc.

Alright, I'm having a hell of a time hooking up this alternator that comes with the relocation kit from speed, inc. Its making a good charge of about 14 volts on the instrument panel, but after driving it less than 5 miles, the alternator itself was hot enough to fry an egg on. I called speed inc, and they told me "not to worry about it". I called the company that manufactures the alternator, and they told me it is definitely not normal for it to heat up like that. I have the exciter wire going to the "L" lead on the plug. Has anyone dealt with these kits before? By the way, this is the second alternator i've tried.
