Default Aftermarket Belts

I recently had to install both serpentine and ac belts on my 01SS and have had nothing but problems. All the belts do is squeak. I can apply belt dressing and it will stop for about 15 to 20 mins but then comes right back. What are the best aftermarket belts that I can buy or do I need to just put factory belts back on the car?

I've always had success with the Poly-Cog belts by Dayco....but if there are other issues such as failing pulleys, mis-aligned pulleys, etc the best belt in the world won't stop the noise!

The car just turned over 117,000 miles and hasn't had a tensioner pulley replaced or adjusted. What type of lifespan do you typically see out of those parts?

There is a good number of those tensioners failing daily! There was enough demand for a better tensioner that Katech made an aftermarket piece for it even, and now Comp and a few others offer similar!

I'm no mechanic by any means and dont have a service manual but is there a spec and way to check the tensioner free play or anything similar to see if indeed it is out of tolerance?

It should be real tight, If you can push it easily, then its bad, or if it stays down its bad. I ended up using a goodyear gatorback belt to shut my squeeling up. worked for me.

Try a gatorback belt,,it has serrated ribs to help eliminate squeeling. It fixed mine, I did everything before even sanded and polished on my pulleys still squeeled, Put the gatorback on and it went away right then

FWIW, i had a belt that I got at NAPA start squealing like crazy after only maybe 6-8 hours of track use. I thought it was the alternator at first. Then I was looking at the other pulleys and the water pump. I tried belt dressing and that made it much worse. I bought a new belt (again, from NAPA) and it is perfectly quiet now. I don't understand what could happen to the belt itself, but that was definitely the source of my squealing.

YMMV.

I've always been a fan of Dayco belts, but Gates is top notch too; both have worked for me without issue
