Default Open headers...

Hey guys!! I plan to run my WS6 with open headers for a little while, just to say I did it... lol And I was wondering, in terms of bolton cars: are open headers going to be THAT much louder than the TSP Duals through LT's?

I wouldn't run just headers, at the very least add some pipe after it. Ive read alot of guys who tried running open headers have issues with their car and it could possible burn out the O2 sensors since its so close to where the pipe ends. And yea it will be that much louder.

It makes no sense what so ever to run open headers. If you run it like that your going to be reving the **** out of it just because it's that much louder. My advice is to never run it with open headers because your just asking for trouble.

Go to a 1/4 mile track and find you an all out drag car, it's that LOUD. Heck go youtube, search for a drag car w/ open headers and hook up your computer to big fkn speakers and turn it up, all the way up and put your ears beside the speakers... It's that LOUD.

Did some exhaust work the last couple of days and before putting on the back half of the system (Y and muffler) I took the car around the block to just see what it sounds like to anticipate what the cutout might sound like. 2500 RPMS was deafening, I could only imagine what it would sound like at WOT.

As a little side note, a kid playing in his driveway did run away when he heard the car, I giggled a little bit, than felt bad.

I ran open headers with no problems for a while but was careful how I did so. It was Nascar loud but lost low end and some mid but top end was ok. You have to be careful letting off the throttle as it garbles and dont sound good and sometimes almost kills it. I didn't run for long that way, just wanted to try it. I loved my duals dumped before axle, sounded like mean old boat or muscle car. I like my exhaust out the back plus it's the law to exit out the back so if can have dual 3" with xpipe like I did all the way out, that was what I liked.

open headers on these cars is pointless. most likely your car is relying on the o2s to function properly in order to run, but they do not work properly on an open header car. i had a 4k stall, 373s, and open headers at one point, i put about 250 miles on the car in that condition. it was dumb. i wasted a set of o2 sensors and it was deafening inside the car. i was happy with my 3" true duals w/x pipe and magnaflow 4x9s, it was plenty loud, sounded great, and kept my $60 o2s alive for years to come.

You guys make it sound like I am going to leave it that way. I am ordering an ORY to go with it, and I mostly just want to do it so I can say that I've done it. It's going to be like that for maybe a day or two. I honestly don't care for opinions like "oh, its pointless" or "don't bother" because like I said I am going to do it... The entire reason I posted was to ask if it was really THAT much louder than TSP Duals; which in my book I would consider "half-way" loud, and thus using it as a comparison.

And to those of you guys who did answer my question, thank you lol

Yes it is going to be that much louder. Its EXTREMELY loud, raspy and pops like someone is shooting a machine gun. You will scare everyone on start up and under normal driving.

Dont get me wrong I would at least start it up with open headers but I was just saying that if you run them too long you run the risk of damaging your O2 sensors, and the car will probable not run as well unless it is tuned with open headers.

And the guy who talks about the gains with the gains with the big block Malibu you can't compare that with modern performance cars because cars now a days rely so much more on the PCM if you make such a drastic change it will negatively effect performance. Back in the day you could add whatever you wanted and just tune the carb and it would be fine, a lot of things changed over the past 30-40 years.
