Default Has this been tried?

So i just bought my long tubes. Should be here this week sometime. My question is though i live in Colorado and need the cats to pass emissions. My plan was to make them removable. So is there a way to cut the ends off the factory cats and weld new ends on it? That way i can make them removable or is there some cats out there i can buy in a couple years when i have to get emissions again and just buy a Y-pipe now and wait? If you guys got pics or ideas let me know im up for anything.

I had a friend that ran something like that on his LS1 back in '02/03. It had flanged hi-flow cats that were removable and replaced with straight pipes on the Y. If memory serves correct the kit was made by FLP, not sure if they still offer it though.

Im sure any decent muffler shop could fab something like that up up for you.

Is it not possible to put dual cutouts in front of the cats?

If it's like PA, we just have a visual inspection for emissions. They look to make sure you have them on. An idea for that if you don't want cats is to hollow your stocks and weld them on the outside of the pipe so it looks like you have them working but in reality it just a few pounds of decoration...

I wish it was just a visual but they hook it up to the sniffer test. So its pretty stupid. I just want a way to do it. If not i will just buy an ory y from tsp and do that then in a couple years cut it up for cats.

I was thinking that too. It's basically a resonator. The cats need have contact with ALL of the exhaust gases to convert the different catalysts.
