Electric power steering?

Way more trouble than its worth.. You would have figure out some way to make a column out of a cobalt, g6 or malibu work in your car. The electric motors are bolted up to these colums & require a control module to operate them. You would also then have to get one of the racks from one of the cars listed & fab it up to complete your project. Not to mention the electric motors & modules are very problematic & are not cheap to replace.

There are tons of articles about road race cars using electric power steering pumps. The most commonly used pump for a budget project is from a Toyota MR2. The 2001 and up are more desirable. If I remember correctly they have brushless elctric mottors which will last a very long time. I personally chose a pump from a 2004 Mazda 3 because I got a smokin deal from a local junkyard. All you will need is custom lines and the know how to wire it up.
The options you suggested require changing your steering column where the MR2 or Mazda 3 simply replace the stock pump.
Here is some reading material if you plan to go that route:

hmm, that's worth thinking about, mines whining like a lil bi**h and a new pump costs around $300 plus i can get some more power out of the motor without it the original right? it doesn't sound like too much work if you ask me
