Default balancer sticking out after double roller

Got my LS1 together, I installed a double roller timing chain. Now when I put the balancer on it sticks out a hair under 1/4 inch, is this normal?

If you can't get the crank pulley mounted far enough onto the crank to get it within factory specifications you'll need to have it machined down shorter.

Or could I just space my other acc's out to match balancer? I don't want to cause a vibration in the motor but I hate to cut a new balancer and not be able to use it on another engine, but i'd rather ruin a balancer then an engine

When you cut a hub (or anything) on a lathe it will be smooth as glass, meaning within .oooX of an inch. Its not like we are asking you to cut it with a hacksaw

My closest machine shop with a lathe is about an hour away, by the time I pay to cut it and gas and time I think i'd be better off just to switch out the timing chain to the LS2, do they make those chains in 3 bolt pattern?

The question you should be focusing on is WHY? These parts are designed to work together w/o modifications, so why is yours not fitting?

The LS2 timing set is for a 3 bolt cam and comes with a 3 bolt sprocket if you order it as a set.
