Trying to decide between cats or ORY for my headers

Default Trying to decide between cats or ORY for my headers

I have a 00 M6 and I live in Houston TEXAS, Im trying to decide on an ORY with American Race Headers of to go with cats....any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It depends on the rest of his setup. If you go with off road pipes you need some sort of muffler or you will get a ton if rasp.

I would say

LT's+ORY+Magnaflow/Hooker/Flowmaster/Borla/Corsa

OR

LT's+CATTED Y+LM1/LM2/GMMG/Rumbler

I have been looking to find out if I can get away with no cats here....not sure yet.


Currently I have GMMG catback system on with headers and Y pipe coming in the near future,

If I could do it all over again, I'd probably go catted just for the stink/rasp factor.

keep in mind that you might notice some raw fuel smell, especially if you car has a larger duration/overlap aftermarket camshaft. The more overlap a camshaft has the more pronounced it will be, so if fuel smell is a issue for you then get cats.

If your looking for a max effort setup get an off road ypipe. If its just a fun street car get some high flow cats.

The catted ypipe will certainly sound better imo.

the ARH y pipe has a good merge so little to no rasp. i'd go catless

Yea bro this is just a fun toy that I have with very little track use....also I dont wanna have to go back and forth switching out catted y pipes and ORYs.....sounds like I just answered my own question

So go with the catted ypipe. It will be legal and sound awesome. The ory is only worth maybe 5 HP over the cats.

I just pulled the trigger on the arh headers and y that I've been drooling over for the last 3 or 4 years. I had the same dilema as you and decided to go ory. What the heck its michigan. There are more beater cars here as anywhere.
Oh yea removing factory cats is illegal so your illegal anyway. I'm not sure how headers and cats pass sniffer tests. I don't think they do. maybe I's wrong.
I have the 2OTL catback and from what I have heard on ls1sounds its gonna sound just fine. If not I'll do something about it. Maybe shove a brillo pad in there or some beanie babies.

BYUNSPEED. should ship this week they tell me.

I just installed my ARH 1 7/8's & ARH catted Y in my driveway this last Sunday. I saw a hell of a deal for them on Craigslist for $500 & they supposedly only had 600 miles on them so I jumped on them.
PM me if you would like to listen to them to get an idea on what they sound like if you ever end up over here in West Houston.
Right now I have the setup going through a Flowmaster catback.

Really you love how that sounds? Man i've never been one to hate on anyones stuff, but damn does that remind me why i absolutely hate the LM set-up with a cat-less system. But if you like it, that is really all that matters.

Anyway, to the OP... ive now ran both a catted and cat-less system on 2 different f-bodys. I gotte say I prefer the catted system. The benefits of running no cats (HP wise) are so small that id rather have the cats to reduce the smell and rasp that will otherwise be present in a cat-less system.

With mine , I can be respectful to neighbors & when the go pedal is used like its supposed to be the sound wakes up. I'm loving this ARH setup. It sounds great going through the Flowmaster............ but I cant help but wonder what it would sound like through a GMMG or adjustable Borla.........
all kinds of possibilities.

Get the cats..better throttle response, clean smell, deeper sound and no rasp! I hate the way my tsp off road y sounds and feels!

Looking back, I would have gone with cats. Mine has a little too much rasp for me. Plus, it cost me too much when it comes time for an inspection.

@ udienow, ive only had this setup for a few months now. its stupid loud inside shops like that its not as bad outside and i can drive it decently quiet if i shift before 2k. no doubt ill be sick of it by the end of summer but i plan on replacing the resonator with a borla muffler. or get a cutout with a different catback.

That setup is impossible to keep quiet Sounds mean though.

I was really surprised how good my BBK LT ORY setup sounds with the Hooker catback. It has no rasp at all in my opinion, I don't know if its due more to the decent merge on the BBK y or the muffler. I say ORY FTW!
