Default Removing power steering pulley

Yes i know there is 900,004 threads about this but i can't seem to get mine off. I rented the puller from O reilly's. I put the little clam shells around the edge of the pulley and put the screw in and tighten. It tightens but then the whole pulley just spins and nothing happens. I tried keeping the pulley from spinning but when it gets so hard to tighten then i can't hold it anymore. Is there something obvious i'm missing? I can't get this thing off for the life of me. If someone had some pics or step by step process that would be awesome, but until then i will feel like the biggest tard for not being able to get it off.

Try soaking it overnight with penitrating oil, it should just slide and pop off.

There should be the large end at the pulley that you need to hold with a 1" or 15/16" wrench (or around that size). While holding that part of it with a wrench, you now need to crank on the small threaded end. The threaded end should have a hex head on it that will fit with about a 1/2" wrench.

If your puller doesn't have hex heads at both ends that you can get a wrench on, you have the wrong puller.

I don't think i have the right puller? Do you see what you're talking about here?

The autozone puller looks exactly like this.....

The only part i have that is even close to 1" is 13/16" and that doesn't fit into the pulley. I am so ******* confused.

You've got the correct puller.

Ok this doesn't make sense. On the top link, the part in the middle doesn't screw into anything? Nothing tightens it just spins.

You are supposed to hold it in place otherwise you are just spinning it in circles. That is the part that pulls the pulley off. When held in place it moves away from the pump.

you got to use the installer part of the kit which is that piece closest to the top in your picture. place the pulley infront of the shaft, screw the bolt into the center of the shaft then crank on the other attachment to push the pulley back on. should go on smooth. hope that helps

Right, now you are just pressing it back on.
