Default coolant temp sending unit

Does any one know if u can use the oem coolant temp. sending unit with an electric autometer gauge...

I would say no, simply because they won't be calibrated correctly IF you used a 98 3 wire sensor which is actually designed to feed a gauge. Gonna have to suck it up and buy the $15 sender

Yea i would buy the adapter from autometer and just put the sending unit in the pass side head.

sounds good no one local had the sending unit and was trying to avoid ordering it... figured it was a long shot tho... thanks guys

If you are going the autometer route, you will need the adapter that screws into the pass side head, part # 2277 ans sending unit # 2259:

hey 93LS1S10 thanks AGAIN! huge help! i would have def just ordered the sending unit and that would have sucked... thanks for the part #'s made it super easy just ordered them both off jegs thanks man much appreciated!

No problem. If you go on autometer's website, go under installation instructions and fill in all your info and they have a chart of every thing you need to hook up all the gauges.

As a followup to my original post, the shorter adapter along with the newly designed sender has my temp reading within 2 degrees at idle and cruise of the temp sensor as read by the ecm. The probe on the new DD sender is indeed 7/16 longer than the original which with the new shorter adapter puts the probe directly in the coolant stream. My theory on head temps seems to be unproven at this point as the fans turn on at expected temps of 215 on and 205 off.+ or - 2 degrees.
