Talking Swapped out the Flowmaster for a Magnaflow!

I swapped out my flowmaster catback for a magnaflow catback. Wow, I couldn't be happier. The magnaflow isn't quite as loud as the flowmaster but the sound is deeper and smoother without all the drone of the flowmaster. I love it. Can't wait to order up a set of ARH an ory to go with it. I would suggest this to anyone who isn't happy with their flowmaster but wants a deep rumble.

but yea I was very pleased with my magnaflows, of course I have a very different setup but magnaflows overall have an awesome tone to them. One of the best sounding mufflers for these cars imo.

I have used Magnaflow on some of my other cars and have always been happy with how they sounded.

I made that jump and hated it. Switched to something else in a few months, but its all in the ear of the beholder. Glad you like it.

I had magnaflow cat back before getting true duals. i LOVED it. The sound just keeps getting better within a few months. The dude that posted before me jumped the gun. After the muffler "breaks in" the sound becomes more powerful sounding and louder. I had mine for over a year and it got louder and deeper with time. If you love it now, you will love it after break in and headers and a ORY. Just a strong suggestion, get a ypipe with a flowmaster merge (TSP ypipe). It will make the magnaflow catback sound much better with no cats. no rasp. also will make exhaust flow much more efficient and alittle more power.

I just plan on running the ARH ory. It has a nice merge and its stainless and thats what I'm most concerned with.

sorry to say thats a bad merge that dimple in the middle of the ypipe merge looks restrictive. not the worse, like pacesetters etc. but bad exhaust turbulance. the exhaust pulses will run right into eachother and you will have bad rasp with that setup using magnaflow catback unless you run cats. 4" Flowmaster merge smooths out the exhaust so you get better flow, sound, power. but to each his own. Im just suggesting base on personal experience changing my exhaust 8 times time to find the right ypipe setup before switching to true duals. In a way i want to go back to my old ypipe setup.

ARH ypipe

VS. qtp ypipe with 4" flowmaster merge

I have a flowmaster on the ls1, and a magnaflow on the 305, needless to say the 305 sounds a thousand times better with the magna compared to the ls1 with the flowmaster.

ALthough that 305 is almost out and ready to be replaced with a built 6.0/ls3!

I've seen the crushed part your talking about before and someone posted up a picture of the inside of the pipe and the crushed part can't be seen inside. It doesn't effect it. If I can find it i'll post it up. But like I said, I'm more concerned with the fact that its stainless than anything else.

It's cool man, appreciate the replies and the pictures. I'll probably run dual cutouts on the y pipe anyway. This is my DD so it has to be very street friendly and durable.

i fully understand you wanting the SS over the QTP one cause i noticed where you live, people in some places dont have to worry about snow and salted highways and therefore dont have to concern themselves as much with the rust factor, especially since you say its a DD and therefore there are times you will have to drive it in poor conditions hence the need for durability, sometimes other things factor into decisions made

I put on a Magnaflow catback, hate it, sounds like ****, and is too quiet. Wish I had my Hooker catback back.

With stock manifolds & Y or LT's & ORY?

LT+ORY. Luckily for me I have a 4 inch cut-out. I may be biased though as I have run stupid loud exhausts for the pasts several years. But I still don't even think the tone is good. And nobody else that hears it does either.

I've been following along at home with this but I have a question:

I always thought you'd need to use a Y-Pipe that was made by the same company as the headers. EG: ARH headers only fit ARH Y-Pipes.

Can I use the really nice looking QTP Y-Pipe with AHR headers?

This is true. Not all y-pipes will fit all headers. In the case of the flowmaster merge as discussed above though, you can just have that welded into any y-pipe afterwards, its what I did on my old car.

Back on topic though, congrats on the switch! I have run magnaflows on both my TAs. The only complaint that I can see people having is how quiet the exhaust is even with LT/ORY. But that is nothing a cut-out can't cure.

This... I have had both catbacks on my lt and oryp setup and to be honest, the factory catback was as loud as the magnaflow after broken in. The Hooker is way better sounding and not as raspy IMO...
