Default TB not working and starter heat sat. issues

I have two issues with my car right now. I have a set of 1 7/8 custom LT headers that is heating up my starter were I have to let it cool down before it will start again. I'm thinking of ordering a smaller starter and heat shield. Would this fix the issure or what have some of you done. Also I have a issue that I will lose TB control were it will go limp if I get on it and TB will stop responding and I will have to reset my battery before it will work again. Any ideas?

Design Engineering Inc (aka DEI) makes a wrap-on starter heat shield. I would also wrap the header in that area as already suggested.
