everyone here hates on flowmaster for its supposedly lousy flow. i still haven't seen any concrete evidence of this.
if you are doing muffler only, it wont be real loud, but it will sound nice. and i figure it has to flow better than the stock muffler.
to everyone but OP:
i have seen lots of flowmaster vs cutout and flowmaster vs magnaflow with new y pipe etc. has anyone dyno'd with flowmaster then changed muffler only? or has anyone dyno'd stock then flowmaster muffler only? i'm not saying i dont believe it restricts flow i'm just saying i don't believe its as bad as some people make it out to be, especially on a stock or near stock application.

i like the way flowmaster sounds. Got a nice rumble and its very clean sounding at least on a stock car that is. I prefer a little more noise though, so i just cut mine off and welded pipes in place Its fairly loud, but still clean because the cats are still there. I guess when i do LT's ill have to get some type of muffler.

I also like Magnaflow and actually have their catback on my car. But I have Flowmaster stuff on a lot of other vehicles and am very happy with it. I don't like obnoxious loud...just a good, deep, mellow tone. That's Flowmaster.

if you dont have any concrete info then you are just spreading a rumor. again, im not saying it's all false, i just havn't seen any substantial data on it. so at this point i still believe it's just n00bs repeating rumors that everyone else has spread.
and if you want to diss on something being the chokemaster hate on those damn stock manifolds ewwwwwwwwwww!
edit: i do have a flowmaster 80 but i am getting a cutout when i make my custom y so problem solved anyway.
@@@@@@@@@ another thing i have never read that some people need to hear is this:
the stock exhaust (at least in my 02 SS) necked down from 2.75 inches to 2.5 inches right before the inlet on the flowmaster. i would bet money that a lot of the issues relating to the flowmaster have to do with people going with the 2.5 inch inlet flowmaster and keeping the bottleneck in place. i ordered the 3 inch inlet flowmaster and had the exhaust shop cut off the neck down section of my i pipe right before it enters the muffler adding a 3 inch piece in its place.
i dont know if the 1/4 inch of of bottlenecking from 2.75 to 2.5 inches hurts that much, but it can't help.

Flowmaster 80 series sucks, a little louder than stock. Now the 40 series is a different story. If had to choose a muffler for a stock ls1 it would be a Flowmaster 40 series or a Magnaflow muffler.

Though I've never had a flowmaster catback on my personal car I have heard a few. I have had previous cars with 40 series mufflers, my wife's SUV has a 40 series Deltaflow, and I have run a 4 inch in/out single chamber on my current set-up. All sounded "better" then my current Magnaflow catback. But, I got it for being quiet, not for sound. So, I will have to politely disagree with your opinion.

^This. My brother has one on his WS6 M6 with cats/manifolds and it sounds awesome. A buddy had one on his A4 WS6 with LT's and it also sounded great. I had the vaunted GMMG at the time and I had to admit that the FM sounded as good if not better.

40 series Flowmaster sounds real nice on a stock LS1, nice and deep.
