Default Different plates for manual cutout?

I don't know if this has been done before, but is it possible with a manual cutout to use caps with holes cut in them to allow a bit of air through with it closed? Just for a little more volume? Would this work/is it practical?

It would more or less be the same thing as the "adjustable" Borla catback.
