Default T56 starter compatibility?

I am doing some research into what starter I will need for my T56/5.3 setup. I will be using an LS7 clutch and flywheel.

5.3/6.0 Truck starters are dirt cheap and very easy to come by, while actual LS1 car starters aren't. I would prefer to use the truck starter if It's possible.

I did a bunch of googling and searching around but found no straight forward answer. This kind of points to a maybe? https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...3-starter.html

Will I be able to use a truck 5.3/6.0 starter with a T56 on my 5.3?

No reason you shouldn't. The truck starter is more desired because of its equal mounting ears rather than one short and one long. I used a truck starter on my ls1 and t56.

I just installed a T-56 w/ GM aluminum bellhousing into my 2000 Tahoe. My original truck starter does not fit into the f-body bellhousing, the nose is too big for the opening. Any info on different starters for different year F-bodies?

Looks like I might have a GTO bell housing instead of an fbody unit. Picked up a GTO starter and it's definitely smaller than the fbody/truck version. Haven't test fitted it yet but will comment as soon as I do.

GTO's and their bellhousing have the starter snout in a different location than Fbodys, corvettes and trucks. The solenoid is also clocked quite a bit differently and interferes with alot of headers

The location of the starter appears to be the same.....it mounts with the same bolts in the same location on the block.

It does have the solenoid at a very slight different angle on the starter that would put it closer to a set of headers. On my truck application w/ longtubes it didn't cause any issues.
