Default intake questions

i am in the midst of building my first ls x motor

what is the difference in running a car or truck manifold?

which one do you think would help me out more?

i am planning on putting this build into a old school mid 30's care
so the weight will be real low

i am also going to run this through a th400 as well

im running a 383 from a lm7 5.3
i want to put 500+ rwhp to the ground
dont have heads or cam yet but working that angle

any help would be great

I know that the truck intake is considerably taller so hood clearance could be a real issue. I have never seen dyno results from running the truck/style intake, I would think if it was a well performance intake, then more people would use it.
Personally I would go with an LS6 intake, unless you want max performance then fast would be the way to go.
Not sure what trans you are running but it will determine your dyno numbers, 500 on a 383 with a six speed is easier than with an auto, but an auto will be faster at the track.
I have a 383 and it dynoed at 493, ( I have a custom cam for nitrous though) If I had it to do over again, I would have ran some AFR or TRICKFLOW heads, I would have made more power, I know my heads are holding my engine back, but I couldnt sprout for some better heads, I was in pretty deep with the shortblock.
as far as a cam, Your best bet would be to get a custom one for your particular setup, there are some good "shelf cams" but I am a believer in custom. I would recommend Geoff Skinner at EPS, he has specced two cams for me and Is at the top of my list of who to go to.
Hope this helps

thanks for the info

i would love to have a fast intake but for the price i cant justify spending that much on something that maybe might or might not be all its cracked up to be

i understand performance parts and mark ups but if i can get the same numbers from a ls6 or typhoon with a 102 throttle body then i will go that way

more bang for my buck......i guess you can say

this is why i am questioning fuel injected intakes
yes i work on LSx motors all day but performance i know little about them
but learning quickly........

cams on the other hand i am trying to learn how to pick the right one as its not like it used to be 25 yrs ago now you have tons more of options and options and options.....

yes i will run it through a th400 trans as i think this will be the best choice for me due to the fact of wanting to drive daily and not be at 4k at 65mph..........NO ELECTRONICS on or in the trans

You can do a speed density tune to delete the maf but i would keep the maf. Yes you can do sd but maf will be easier to deal with. Yes they seem to be a good company and a great price.
