Default SLP vs Volant

So my Firehawk came with the factory SLP Blackwing intake.
I replaced it with a Volant intake. I have bout the same amount
of humans saying the other is (volant vs slp) better.

Just wanted your guys' opinion and or knowledge of the matter.

I have the Volant and I love it... went from a whisper lid to it so I couldnt say I got a performance gain but it sure looks cool... those blackwing lids are hard to come by and will only get more rare... its not unheard of for them to fetch $400 or so...

I love the volant, until I saw the price! Great looking intake, but I haven't been able to find any dyno info on it. I'd assume the fact that it appears to provide more filter surface area would mean it would flow better.

Was just gonna make a new thread but I'll ask in here... Will the Volant intake and factory SS hood work together as far as fitment and clearence. Or will it fit like garbage and rub the hood?

I'm under the impression that the volant system
sit flushed against the hood therefor closing it off for
colder air.

I'm not to sure it it's the same for the SS.
It seems to be designed for the ram air
style hoods.

But can you still use the cold air ram air from underneath?

Like others have said that blackwing lid is worth quite a bit of cash. As for performance I couldn't tell you which is better. I have the whisper lid on my car and I can't tell a difference other than the throttle music I get since my baffles and stuff are gone.

I can hear a much more pronounced 'sucking' sound... That could be my wife though Since I got my Volant, shes gobbles my **** 3.2 seconds sooner than she did when I had my whisper lid. Is that enough of a gain for you?

I've been using the Volant on my T/A for years now. I actually went a leetle further with the install.

Removed the baffles from hood nostrils, designed plastic ducts in 3D, made them out of plastic with Rapid Prototype machine, and installed them so they completely duct the air entering nostrils back and into the sealed airbox of the Volant.

I know the airflow at that point on the T/A does not afford true Ram Air - but I figured it couldn't hurt, and as a Design Engineer, I made a project out of it

Pics of what? the ducts? Pretty hard to get a pic as they are buried in the hood and the back plate that holds them in is riveted to the rectangular opening in the hood behind the nostrils - about all I could show would be the outlet in the hood at the rear of the nostril intakes where they dump into the area that is sealed by the Volant airbox.

The ducts are similar to the BG Ram Air Ducts that have been discontinued for years now...

I surely can take a pic of the outlet end of the ducts - but I assure you, they are there. No big deal to design them as that is what I do in 3D SolidWorks all day, every day. Simple to then create a .STL file from the 3D part, send over to RP machine. I did have to make a couple different versions till I got the fit where I wanted it, but RP is cheap & quik

I still have the cardboard mock up's that I used to start the design somewhere
