Default cut up exhaust pipes,,, do they make tape?

cut up a C5 exhaust in order to gut the cats. is there any way to "tape" up the exhaust pipe. For example: take a 4 foot strait piece of exhaust pipe and cut it in half = 2 two foot pieces of strait exhaust pipe. Now is there any way to re-join these two pieces of pipe together without a torch and welder?

i have seen a few clamps at the auto store. do i just use some gasket making material (not RVT but the type you cut gaskets out of) in between the band clamp and the pipe to help seal it or do i just put the band clamp in dry

what you need is a "butt-joint" band clamp. You would need to put RTV around the clamp to make a seal on both ends.

WHAT you do need is to take both pieces to an exhaust shop...Have both ends of one pipe stretched to suit so they will fit over the existing pipe & the second pipe....2nd pipe stretched one end only so it goes over existing & inside the 1st pipe.
Fit so the pipe from header end has the one stretch only
Use exhaust pipe clamps to help hold together.

Do not butt join unless you weld together...It 'WILL' leak.

If you cannont get them welded then you need the aluminum band clamps. They are about 3" wide and when you tighten them down they conform to the pipes for a good seal.

Best advice in the thread. Stainless ones are fine.

Or you can go to auto zone or such and get a connector for the outside diameter of the pipes and get 2 clamps.

thats what I was thinking it would be alot cheaper to pay an exhaust shop to weld it than to buy clamps.
