Default LS1 vs LS6 intake manifold

I'm converting my L33 engine from a truck to work in my car. One of the items I'm replacing is the intake manifold. How much can I expect to lose in potential power if I use an LS1 intake manifold instead of an LS6? I want to save some money to get the project on the road and I can always upgrade to an LS6 later...

For guys who make the switch from LS1 to LS6, they tend to comment that powerband moves up in the rpm band. Where you give up some you may gain somewhere else. I do not think the LS6 is superior to the LS1 in every aspect, but it does tend to shine in the upper rpms. Guess it depends on what you're after.

When I was cam only, I felt a big difference from just under 3k up. Well worth the upgrade. I have an ls1 intake and will be going with a bbk

Since I want to get it started soon, I'll probably use an LS1 manifold since they are significantly cheaper. When I upgrade can I just swap he plastic intake and use the LS1 rails/injectors/throttle body?

yes, they are pretty much the same externally. You'll have to remove your EGR stuff or make a provision for it in the LS6 intake

You really should wait for a used ls6, 3-350$ on e-bay and the classifieds is well worth it. I swapped mine out and yes it pulls so much harder...It's was more noticable than I thought it was going to be.

I haven't checked eBay yet. Everyone on here wants like 450 plus shipping which I think is ridiculous.

No kidding man, my buddy's giving me his ls6 manifold off his 04 GTO for helping him install his headers and his new manifold, lol. What I think's ridiculous is how expensive FASTS manifolds are, $800-$1000 for a $50 piece of plastic molded to a certain shape, lol. Don't get me wrong, I know they make more power compared to the ls1 and ls6 manifold, but man that's a ton of money for a stock or minor bolt on engine, lol.

I got mine for 325$ shipped on this site, but at the same time their were a few for 350$ on e-bay, if you send a message to an e-bay seller saying that you'll buy it now for free shipping they'll normally do it, if theirs a buy it now price. I also sold my ls1 intake for 165$ on e-bay which was awesome considering my reserve price was 75$ and I was really was just hoping to get 100$ out of it, so essentially I bought my ls6 for 160$. Theirs a new ls6 everycouple day's on e-bay, but you can talk down prices in these classifieds. It's worth it..

It is. They jack the price up because they are in demand. For that money you can get a Professional Products Typhoon intake and make better power than with the LS6.

not every forum agrees with that statement. plus i have seen many dyno charts showing 500+ hp on a LS6.

You're paying for product R+D, not just plastic.

first rule of economics class, "supply and demand"

however after talking to alot of proffesionals, the fast 102 outperforms the 90/92's and is easier to get ahold of..

So you think they will drop the price when they make their R&D money back?

Keep dreaming. They are as greedy as everyone else in the world.

I'd start out with the LS6 manifold. But if you're wanting to get an LS1 to roll things along quicker, I have one off my '00 Vette I'll sell VERY CHEAP. It had 34,201 miles when I took it off if that matters.

the LS6 is really a nice piece but for a truck, and for potentially 300 bucks cheaper, maybe you should consider an LS1 intake till you can get a great deal on the LS6.

i also have one for sale, just PM me if you want it.
