Default A little ss history

Or lack thereof.....(deep breath) OK some history, I took this car in on trade back in the late summer, has been DD up until just now, so car is in shop & I'm doing a little upgrading, cleaning, inspecting, ect. Only history I have on the car is what I've been told by both SLP & previous owner. All mods in sig where done already when I got car, so my questions are these......I've posted some intake pics
#1 anyway to determine ls6 intake from ls1 while still on car?
#2 casting on heads read 12557331, any info provided by that?
#3 WTH is up with lid, MAF, TB? Do u see how it fits...not?
#4 I truly appreciate any & all info, suggestions, how-to's that you guys provide!! I'm not at a complete loss here, but I really look forward to the input of u seasoned LS owners!!
OK so can't upload pics from phone but I will as soon as I get to computer!

LS6 intake will NOT have the egr tube behind the throttle body

just read egr delete...... I would think if you had an LS1 intake, you would have a plate or plug where the EGR tube used to go into the TB.

#1 - what is the part # on the Intake that will tell you what it is
#2 - there should be a 3 digit number on the head to tell you what it is

Ill get pics up soon, there's no egr, but no plate either. Looks like a hole where one might have to been, its blocked but no flush plate over it.

Then its an LS6. Heads should be 241s and the lid should either be stock or blackwing

Look between where the injectors plug into the manifold there should be a Part number. I don't remember which side it is on, sorry.

That's also not an 85mm MAF. It is the stock 75mm. That also looks like the same lid that is on mine which is made by whisper.

looks like you need to rotate the bellow between the throttle body and MAF 180*. that will make it fit better into the lid.

The op's car is said to be a 98 so it would have 806 heads he doesnt say anything about it having 241s the picture above is of someone elses car. you can see in the pics above that they are in fact 806 heads. the coils are bolted right to the covers instead of brackets and you can actually see some of the bolts on the outside so they heads are infact 98 stock 806 heads. and yes that's an ls1 intake and stock maf. If I were you I'd start witht he basics, ls6 intake, ported stock TB and then headers/ exhuast

My bad.. someone else had posted that pic with the 241 casting. I was just glancing at pics. Forgot all about the 97-98 being perimeter bolt valve cover heads.

This is why I'm a member Great info guys glad to be able clear some of this stuff up! So.... headers are on the way, ls6 intake next. I can pick up SLP 85mm MAF locally for $100. TB has been PP but unsure of quality. Lid is LS1 motorsports which u can see in pics has been trimmed. So I'm guessing with headers, MAF, intake ill need another tune?

looks like the lid is cracked where the maf sensor plugs in. also it shouldnt be cocked like that. as far as the maf sensor the stock part is supposed to be good to 450-500 hp so no point in spending cash on a bigger one till youre way up there

the stock maf is fine for up to around 500hp so you should be ok with the stocker. performance mafs are kinda like voodoo and it takes a good tuner to really get one dialed in. spend the money elsewhere. if you really want to inprove flow you can descreen it just be careful. and before anyone tells him that descreening it isnt a good idea because of dirt, remember that every new gm is unscreened and the z06 was also unscreened.

you really should get a new tune with the headers and ls6 intake and also look at your tb and either send it out to be ported or DIY. If you have a dremel, some grinding stones, and about 2 hrs you can do it and its good for around 5-7hp. also make sure with the ls6 intake you either get the ls6 steam lines for the heads or you will have to grind the bottom of the intake.

Yeah fitment on the lid is less than ideal, prob start looking for another one. MAF has already been descreened but still has "center section" which ive read can be eliminated. May go ahead & send TB off as core for one that been done correctly (seems ive seen on this board somewhere PP + color choice for $100 plus core?) Also can anyone recommend a trusted tuner close to me? (NW TN)
