Default Ported Stock Lid

After numerous searches...... I said F an aftermarket lid that does not fit and started to port my stocker. Here is a pic of "stage one". Stage one because my flapper wheel wore out

Not sure if there will be a difference when done, but it cannot be too far away from the aftermarket lids.

This is the same thing I did to my 02' SS. It actually improved my overall performance, especially in the mid-range to high rpm's. I think it's worth the few bucks in materials. I used a pr. of vice grips and sand paper.

I did the same thing this morning and I've got a lid. I doubt it will make much difference but its worth a try. My lid didn't pick my car up at all so I took it back off. Most people say they helped their cars though.

The oval opening is still a restriction. I've never had or seen fitment issues on any brand and together my friends and I have been through SLP, TSP, FTP, MTI, Granatelli, LS1 motorsports, Whisper and Volant. Never had any issues. Idk what everyone complains about. Essentially OP you will have a Blackwing lid when you are done bit even that falls short from a good lid

Next weekend when I get another flapper wheel..... the other ribs are coming out. Will look at the neck a little closer.

A lid is the cheapest upgrade in the world of LS performance, if you are willing to spend the aftermarket lid money on buying new bits to grind the stock lid then there's no hope lol

No...have you ever seen the inside of a genuine blackwing lid? it's got a totally better design with the plenum itself being smoothly transitioned into the neck of the lid. the Blackwing is just as good as any other lid on the market, with the exception of the larger lids for larger MAF's etc. but compared to a whisper, SLP, MTI...etc, its right on par.

here is a picture for your comparison.

The Blackwing lid looks identical to an aftermarket SLP lid but with the oval opening and a bellow to make it round.

it is damn near, and it fits like a glove. there is a reason they are so expensive, barring the fact they didnt make a lot of them. it fits like stock, looks like stock and performs just as well as any other lid on the market.
