Hey guys, sorry for the stupid question. I searched a bit, but I didn't find a definitive answer.

What should I gap my NGK TR5's to? 40?

I just pulled my manifolds, gonna install my headers and poly mounts and I figured I'd do my plugs while there is room.

IIRC the tr5's are the same as the tr55's so they should be gapped to .50 Correct me if I'm wrong

They are not the same. As far as I know the tr5's come gapped at .50, and tr55's at .55 (hence the numbers after the tr). I gapped my tr55's to .60 as that what was in the owners manual, but apparently they changed the recommendation. I did a lot of searching and could not find a definite answer, just a bunch of opinions.

One thing people recommended to me is to not put the plugs in till the headers are in. That way it is easier and you don't risk breaking one when installing the headers.

The current specification (both GM and NGK) is 0.040"- it has varied from time to time hence the confusion.

some people have a harder time changing the mounts than others. it took me a little over an hour to do both sides on mine with the exhaust off

ive heard that tr5 and 55 are gapped the same but am sure its as z-camaro said...ive ran tr6 out of the box on a bolt ons car but now going with tr55..

TR5's and TR55's are the same plug out of the box except the gap. TR5's are gapped .035" out of the box and TR55's are gapped .055" out of the box. You should be gapped .055" on an N/A application.

When I did my headers in November I put new TR55's on and they were pre gapped at .055, which is what I read to have them at for N/A, so I left them at that.

Haven't had any issues.

Holy **** the misinformation is rampant around here! The numerical designation on the plug is the HEAT RANGE not the ******* "gap out of the box".

That is all well and good, if not the dumbest spark plug anomaly known to man. I can't believe NGK would waste money on a plug gap designation. If you check the listed TR series of plugs this is the only one you'll find with the TRX"5" designation. I am flabbergasted by the retardation of this revelation.

Sadly I just ordered a set of TR55s and TR6s from RockAuto.com when I could have just ordered the TR5s out of principle.

I stand by my statement that the majority of people here don't know their *** from their elbow when it comes to "tech" and spread some of the most unimaginable crap around. Present company excluded.

Open a box and check them...they will come out as most of us have said on here. I just did it a couple months ago with my silverado, and have done it alot with my old car and about to with my new one. everytime, tr55's were 55 out of the box, and tr5's have on two occasions, been 35...NO TO BE A DICK either.
