Your thoughts if copper in oil but no engine noise.

If it were rod bearings I think I would hear noise.
Maybe crank to block bearings?

Copper is likely bearing material, could be from mains/rods/thrust or cam (less likely). You wouldn't necessarily have noises with worn bearings. Only way to know is tear it down.

The crank, rod, main bearings are plated with silver colored material....probably tin and others.
The cam bearings (at least the ones in my car) are brass/copper colored.
Before you tear things up, you can remove the front cover, leave the heads on, and pull the cam out.
You should be able to shine a flashlight in the cam tunnel & inspect.
If a cam bearing is worn, THEN the engine will have to be pulled to replace the bearing(s).
Just wanted to add...the crank counterweights have a color which might fit into this category. If your crank thrust bearing was REALLY worn, a counterweight might be rubbing against the block. I doubt this, because then you'd have engine block iron or aluminum in the oil, as well.

I'm gonna go with what Gmag said.. worn cam bearings. Almost every car I do a cam swap on, has worn cam bearings.. nature of the beast, I think.. The front one is nearly always worn thru the babbit from the chain tension. Just keep an eye on your oil pressure.

Other parts that can contribute copper, or copper color, to oil include some valve guides and newly installed oil coolers.
