Default Catch cans and breathers?

Hey guys, im doing a heads and cam build and someone mentioned to me this catch can or breather I should install. Im not real familiar with what it does but from my understanding there installed to take and keep the excess oil vapors and condensation out of the intake and off the piston? If someone could explain these to me or point me in the right direciton of somewhere I could read up on this id appreciate it. I couldnt dig up nothing with the search. Thanks
