Default Is this high enough for LT Header install?

This is not my first Header Install but I think the last time I did it was during a full engine removal. So....

Will this be high enough? The headers I have require no other modifications and go in easily from what I've heard. This is about as high as I can get it on the equipment that I have. I could jack up the rear if it helps to have the car even.

Guess I could always put a piece of wood on my jack and get it that much higher, seems my stands can go a bit higher.

Thanks,
Mike

Guess I'll try to get a few more inches in there. I still have my A/C too so not sure that makes it any more difficult.

You want at minimum 17" between the ground and the bottom of the car. Trust me the higher the better. 22" is ideal.

Thanks for the info, I think it will work good. I think I may lift the rear too, my hand brake was on and it's an auto, don't think it's going anywhere lol.

Chock your wheels, your life is worth it, I promise. Also, Shake the hell out of the car, I had mine up like that and was about to get under it, but I shook it just a little and it almost tipped the stands. A good method is to put ramps on the back wheels. I actually have mine up for a longtube install I'll go snap some pics.

I needed 17 1/2" inches from the deck to the bottom of my K for my TSP install. Went in like cake.

also get the original y out of there along with the driver side cat (i believe) out before unbolting the headers. it sounds like something stupid to say, but I had to get the driver side even higher since i didn't remove it all before unbolting the header. makes me look like an idiot, but hopefully it will end up helping you

I didn't have to mess with the starter AT ALL. I removed the steering shaft, which wasn't as bad is it was intimidating. 2 bolts and it actually just came right out.

I did the oil filter, b/c I run a long one (WIX 51522) as well as the drain plug. I needed to change oil anyways, so it wasn't a big deal to me.

Just remember to grind off the "flange" on the oil dipstick tube bolt. That should be about it.....

There's good info in here from my install https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ed-curtis.html

I like that Porter Cable thread, man.

Look shigh enough to me but I get nervous jsut looking at it that high supported by jsut two jack stands. Invest $20 in another pair. If that thing falls, it'll mess a lot of stuff up. Particularly you, if you're under it.

Personally, I felt my (2) 3 Ton jack stands were more than sufficient.

I've worked on many fbodies and I trust that jack stands can hold their own as long as you test to make sure the car is stable.

Im in the process of doing it now, some of the stuff is a PITA to get off, still have to shake the stock ypipe out.

I started by removing ypipe, stock cats, then removing the stock manifolds. I have not pulled the starter but hoping I don't have to but I guess we'll see.

I got all the stock stuff off already in anticipation for putting all my stuff on. Fyi I broke all six bolts holding the manifold to the Y-pipe. tons of PB and a breaker bar and they still broke. I removed the clutch line heat shield to get the driver's side manifold out. Passenger side came out with no issues, even with the starter in there.

Thanks for the kind words about my porter cable thread, It was a lot of work but it brought the car back to life and I'm so glad that was the first thing I did to it.

Ok I have 16" of clearance from the kmember down to the floor and it does not seem to be enough for the passenger side. I am going to attempt to get it higher but not sure how this will happen.

Drivers side gave me some fits but after removing the little cap that sits beside the oil filter (I assume this is for an oil cooler?) I was able to slide the header in and bolt it up.

Passenger side, I have not removed the starter yet but I can't even get the angle to get it starter so starter may be coming out. Then if that doesn't work and I can't get the car higher I will remove the motor mount and lift the engine slightly.

Hoping to get this crap done lol, need to do the pcm o2 sensor swap.

Also, so much for taking time to coat my headers before putting them in, I even baked the coating on. Installation has ruined them lol. Guess I'll be brushing on some touch up after install.

When I swapped mine out two days ago I had it around 16" to take everything out. I jacked it up a little higher to install the lt's without having to remove anything. They slid right in with no issues. I would recommend a helper to grab the headers when you feed them up.
I think during removal two bolts didn't brake on the cats. Lol

I ended up getting it at least 1" more and then removed the starter as well as the connectors in that area and after moving it around and around and putting it in different ways it went in.
