Default power steering problem

hey guys just finished a c5 re and re on a friends car and now the power steering pump is leaking and there is a very distinct squealing coming from it. I am going to buy a new one to replace it along with swapping out the pulley with a metal one rather than plastic. why do you guys think that the power steering pump failed?

Where is it leaking from? It's not a line that is leaking, right? How many miles were on the vehicle?

How much fluid was in it when it was squeling, because I found out the hard way that the power steering pumps use their own fluid to lubricate the bearings in there. So if you have no fluid in there, then you will get squeling, and bearing failure and probably throw your belt. Don't ask me how I know. lol
