Default what MAF and lid for my new ls6 intake?

I put a cam and headers on my buddies stock 01' Z28 along with a

Ls6 intake manifold. I was thinking a 85mm MAF would be about the best money investment to match the ls-6 intake. Or would he really gain that much with a bigger MAF?

If we do get the 85mm which air lid would be worth upgrading to?

We are just going for max power on a limited budget. ( like everyone else)

You won't gain any noticeable power with the GM 85mm. With that said, I am running the 85mm and a Fast Toys 98mm lid w/ the SLP coupler. Everything fit nicely. http://fasttoys.net/shop/Fast-Toys-B...-Firebird-LS1/

Well that sounds like an honest answer. So that 300 dollar investment in that 85 mm maf and the 98mm air lid isnt worth it?

I put the bigger MAF on my car, retuned, and saw no gains.

Mild head porting, 230/238 cam. I would not recommend the investment unless you get one cheap like I did ($50 shipped) and have access to free tuning. You can't run one without a tune for it.

In my eye's every little thing adds up. So if it were my build then yes, I would invest in it.

This is the set up I've wanted for a little while. It looks cleaner since the AIT sensor in built into the MAF. I have the 98mm FTP lid and factory MAF so I had to drill a hole in my lid for the AIT I also had to trim my SLP bellow a bit since the neck of the FTP's a little longer

i saw 5rwhp with the 85mm MAF. They are super cheap and getting a tune anyway so I ran it. In some cases it will make a hard angle going into the TB with the accordian bellow, so some attention may be necessary to address that.

Depends on hp rating...You don't really need a maf until your 450+ hp...stocker can supposedly handle up to 500hp. Or wait until you do a fast setup.

Keep the stock MAF for now. I ended up installing a better screen into my stock MAF. Sure it probably isn't worth much, but it sure is less restricting than the stock MAF screen, and $10.. I also run a FTP 98mm lid, which I definitely felt an improvement with, because I was running stock lid with a cam, headers, and a tune before I changed lids.

Here's my MAF screen: (it's cells are deeper too, which helps straighten turbulent airflow)

Did you need to adjust the tune after you put on the new MAF screen? I have one and haven't put it on as of yet.

Honestly, I felt no difference whatsoever. But, it was $10, and to me, one less restriction, and the possibility of a better airflow hitting the MAF sensors. So I said what the hell. I bet with this screen, the MAF can withhold higher HP numbers before it becomes restrictive than a stock MAF.

Stock MAF is fine and any lid is the same. And as I see it from a physics perspective the screen with the smaller honeycomb is better.

Yea the honeycomb is for making the incoming the incoming air charge a more laminar flow it's not really a restriction I would spend the maf money somewhere else that's my 2 cents

Same screen I run on my stock MAF, and the same one I'll be using for my custom 85mm MAF
