While fixing a radiator problem the other day I started the car with the filter/MAF/etc off. The car has made a sucking/hissing sound since the intake went on a couple years ago that I thought was coming from the filter.

But it is clearly coming from the intake mouth/throttle body.

Does your car do this? Just double checking to make sure it's normal or if I need to pull it apart and check for internal leaks or anything. It was apart for porting and I reused the old gasket when I did it.

Mine makes a noticeable sucking sound, but it sounds like its coming from the lid. Started it when I installed my FAST. I figured it was just due to the lid not fitting quite right. I think its only at cold idle.

Well, the air gets sucked into the motor from there.....so a sucking sound is normal when you start the car. When it's idling, the throttle plate is closed and air is being sucked through small openings to keep the car running so depending on the TB, it might hiss or make some noise.

Is this a serious question?

Mine has made that sound since I put an aftermarket lid on years ago. It does quiet down a bit about a minute later though.

Yes it is a serious question. The volume is what I found odd. It might seem obvious but I've learned not to take things for granted.

It is loud enough you can hear it over the dumped duals from inside the car. The old ls1 intake didn't make such sounds or if it did they were not audible over the exhaust (which was much quieter at the time).

I honestly expect it is normal, but have never been around another car with a fast in person. No ls1 or ls6 intake fbody I've been around makes similar sounds so I don't have much to compare to.

You can hear it over your exhaust? That doesn't seem right. I just installed my proflo and the sucking is way louder than my ls1 intake but this is at the lid when standing in front of the car with the Hood open.

My 102 FAST does the same thing. My intake manifold has new gaskets as well.

PM me your email, and I can try to send you a video of mine to see if your sound is similar.

Thanks for the input guys, guess it's nothing to worry about like I thought but better safe than sorry usually treats me (and my car) well.

If you are concerned about it leaking then when its running try spraying some carb and choke around it to see if its getting sucked into the intake, just an idea

I know there is not an external leak. I just do not know how I could test for a leak internally between the shell pieces.

My FAST was noisy as hell, especially after it was ported.

Mine makes a crazy loud hissing sound (NW 102 Tb, ported 102). I'm not sure I can hear it inside my car over the duals but on the outside its sounds like a giant shop vac.

Didn't really notice a difference in sound between the LS6 and FAST 78, but the 92 goes on in about a week along with a NW 92 and I'll be able to update then....

I know when I installed my Chrs1313 non-AC ram air, it sounded like the scoop would suck up a small child when I started the car

My 102 does the same thing, I think it's due to more air coming in/flowing in, especially when I rev it up, sounds like a jet engine

Having just installed a FAST LSXR and 102TB, I am bringing this thread back to say that I am very annoyed by the loud "sucking" sound coming through the intake pipes and air filter. Like ThunderStruck, I have a very loud exhaust, yet the intake sound is louder than the exhaust when sitting in the car. Looking through older posts and the Vette forums, many others are noting this too. Many believe it is actually valvetrain sound being amplified by the manifold.
Perhaps plastic pipes between the TB and filter will solve it, but unless it is a lot faster at the track then my previous 4150 style intake, it is coming off.
