Default Swap intakes

Would it be any advantage to swap my stock intake from my 99 trans am with an intake from an 06 GTO stock intake?

the 06 is a LS2 right. all of the info I have read here says that the LS2 intake sucks *****. combine the lesser performance and the fact you then woudl have to find a LS2 throttle body and get a tune for the larger TB and it isnt worth it. You are better off with what you have now. Or find a LS6 intake. I am not sure about camaros but all C5s after 2001 regardless of if it was a LS1 or zo6 got the better intake.

I basically agree with baxsom. You'd have to use a 90mm throttle body with the LS2 intake and get it tuned. And the advantage/gain would probably be dissapointing in most scenarios.

The LS6 intake is definitely a better upgrade then the LS2.

I agree completely, an LS2 intake is better than the LS1 you have on there but not worth the trouble of swapping, finding an LS2 TB and tuning it. The best thing to just do an LS6, they are really not that expensive or hard to find.

^^^ I agree... If u want to run a 90mm TB.... buy a FAST... even Ported LS2 show slight increase in power over the STOCK LS6 intake.. Just be patient. If will payoff.... Plenty of LS6 intake are out there.

If one wants to stick to an factory LS intake for cathedral heads, a ported LS6 if the ticket, IMO. There is a vendor/sponsor on Corvette Forums that offers various ported intakes and throttle bodies. For what he shown and told me (flow chart too w/ stock vs ported), his ported LS6 is very impressive. The guy also has a money back guarantee if the customer isn't satisfied.

I know that bare essential racing ports the LS6 intake and supposedly does a real good job of it. You could always then send it to TPIS for a 90mm snout installed so you can use a 90mm throttle body.

Yep, bare essential racing is who I was talking about. And that Cajun guy that runs or owns it has top notch customer service from my experience.

TPiS is a good idea, but at that price, fast.

best bang for the buck is a bbk ssi. a stock ls2 isnt worth the minimal gain over an ls1...plus youd have to buy a thottle body, or atleast an adapter, then fab a bracket on the ls2 since they dont have a throttle cable bracket for it... keep in mind what you have done to the car, as bolting on an ls6 may be worth 7-10whp over a factory ls6 but can be worth twice that with supporting mods... anything over 400whp can really see the gains from the ls6...

my list ls1<ls2<ls6<ported ls2<bbk ssi (85mm)<fast 90/92

if i had an fbody... id run a 98mm lid gm 85maf slp bellow 85mm bbk ported throttle body and bbk ssi intake manifold bout 850-1000.... all 85mm as the 98 is rated as an 85mm. if it were a heads cam car... just exhaust and stock cam, slp lid ported stock 78mm maf fernco coupler, ported factory tb stock ls1 intake
